Roles and permissions

Every person in a workspace has one of four roles. Roles decide what someone can create, publish, delete, and configure. Pick the role when you send an invitation; Admins can change it later.

  • Admin — full control: settings, brand publishing, team management, and Meta ad spend.
  • Editor — builds and publishes content, and can deploy Meta ads, but doesn’t touch workspace settings or the team roster.
  • Member — day-to-day content work: products, campaigns, and surfaces — without delete rights on products or any Meta ad access.
  • Viewer — read-only: sees dashboards, analytics, and insights, changes nothing.

The roles are a hierarchy: Viewer < Member < Editor < Admin. Each role can do everything the roles below it can.

Member is almost an Editor for content. For everyday work — creating and editing products, building campaigns, publishing them, setting up surfaces — a Member and an Editor are equivalent. The differences are exactly two: Members can’t delete products, and Members have no access to Meta ad actions. If someone’s job is making and shipping campaigns, Member is usually enough; reserve Editor for people who also deploy ads or manage invitations.

Only Admins can mint Admin invites. Editors can send invitations, but only for Editor, Member, or Viewer roles. Adding another Admin is always an Admin’s call.

You can’t demote or remove yourself. Role changes and removals only apply to other people. This keeps a workspace from losing its last Admin by accident. If you need your own role changed, ask another Admin.

A solo workspace’s member is an Admin. If you’re the only person in a workspace, SparkleTree treats you as its Admin regardless of your nominal role — you can always reach settings, publish your brand, and manage the (future) team.

Money and brand identity sit with Admins. Connecting Meta accounts, approving ad spend, hitting the Emergency stop, and publishing brand changes with Publish are Admin-only. Editors can prepare and deploy ads, but the spend approval and the kill switch stay one level up.

  • The workspace owner and anyone who handles billing or brand publishing: Admin.
  • Campaign leads who also run Meta ads: Editor.
  • Content creators and campaign builders: Member.
  • Stakeholders, clients, and anyone who just needs the numbers: Viewer.

Roles are per workspace, so the same person can be an Admin in one workspace and a Viewer in another. See Managing your team for how to change a role.
